Every battery at its most profitable size

Battery Size Efficiency 800 / 200 W Standby

Efficiency is how much stored power comes back out; it drops at low power, which matters at night when a house draws a steady 200–300 W. The label next to each value says where it comes from: hover or tap it for details.

The monthly payment is an advance that's settled once a year, so you can lower it by about what the battery saves. The welcome discount comes with or without a battery, so it doesn't speed up the payback.

How it's calculated

For every hour of the year, solar power you would have sent to the grid charges the battery instead (up to its charge power), and the battery then powers your home (up to its discharge power) until it's empty. Part of the energy is lost on the way, at the efficiency that matches that hour's power.
